Owner's Manual Toyota Crv Long Term Store
Posted By admin On 15/11/19Dear Tom and Ray:
The owner's manual for my 2010 Honda CR-V with all-wheel drive states that only Honda fluids may be used in the car, except for motor oil. The dealer's service department confirms this. The rear differential gear oil, automatic-transmission fluid, power-steering fluid, brake fluid, engine coolant, etc., have to come from Honda, they say. Dire and catastrophic results are promised otherwise. I think 'hellfire and brimstone' is in there somewhere, too. Is there a chance that Honda is overdramatizing this as a way to provide extra revenue to the dealer?
Honda CR-V Maintenance and Repair. I have read in motortrend that their long-term Altima had noises coming from that area also, but the window caused it. I tried opening the windows while driving but yet the same thing occurs. The CR-V Owner's Manual has a section that specifically talks about changing oil early. It says don't do it!;D. TOM: What the manufacturers tell us is that it's all about corrosion, Stan. Honda, and other carmakers, use different alloys of aluminum in their components -- mostly to make their vehicles lighter and more fuel-efficient.
RAY: And they say that their own fluids are designed to minimize corrosion in those specific kinds of aluminum over time.
TOM: Is it possible that they also enjoy a little extra profit by selling their own fluids? Sure. Is it possible that they benefit from having a lot of customers return to their dealerships for service so they can sell them other services and a 2015 Odyssey? Sure.
RAY: But they also may be absolutely right about their fluids minimizing corrosion on their own cars. And it's in their long-term interest to not have key components of their cars corrode and fail as they get older.
TOM: Keep in mind that just because you want to use Honda fluids, you don't have to go to the Honda dealer for service. You can ask your independent shop to use Honda fluids, and it'll get the stuff from the dealer.
RAY: We have an independent shop, and -- with the exception of motor oil -- we actually use nothing but Honda fluids on all late-model Hondas. The difference in cost is pretty minimal. And we figure, why risk a part that costs thousands of dollars to replace in order to save a few bucks on fluid? Especially with something like the differential oil, which gets changed only every 30,000 miles. Or the transmission fluid, which is changed even less frequently.
TOM: The only downside (and it's for us, not you) is that as more and more manufacturers demand that only their own fluids be used, we need more and more shelves in the garage to warehouse all that stuff.
RAY: We had to practically buy out IKEA last year. Then we had to go back a week later and buy one more shelving unit to store all those Allen wrenches.

TOM: So we don't have proof that using Honda fluids is absolutely necessary, Stan. But we think it's a reasonable thing to do based on Honda's claims. That's what we do for Honda owners who come into our shop.

I purchased my 2011 on 9/19/16. I did not notice how uncomfortable the car would be when I did a test drive. My hip hurt the first time I drove it. Within a week not only was my hip and leg bothering me but my upper back as well. The headrest was pushing my head forward so turned it around. Did not help. Readjusted the seat and steering wheel in every position. Did not help. Tried cushions from Relax the Back store. Did nothing. I am now seeing a chiropractor to get my body back to normal.
I am now driving my husband's pickup. Due to financial circumstances it would not be wise to get rid of the CRV until next year. Very disappointing as I really wanted a Honda CRV. Are there replacement seats that would be more comfortable?
Our mechanic really praised the CRV for its dependability and ease of repair. Is there anything Honda would do to help with this situation or is my only solution to get rid of it and go to another make and model.

The headrest is designed so that you have to drive with a forward head posture which causes neck pain. I challenge the R&D Honda people to visit a chiropractors office and have explained to them the negative long term health effects of forward head posture. No matter how much you adjust the seat, there is no way around this due to the fact that the headrest juts forward. The owner's manual is a joke! You cannot avoid this head jutting position unless your recline the seat into a position that has you leaning back. The only way around it is to recline the seat and sit upright with no support for your upper back. Not sustainable on the 5 hour drives i need to do.
After a 5 hour drive, it takes me hours if not overnight to recover. I went today to look at the 2015 to see if they had changed them, they haven't despite many, many online vents about this problem.
The Honda dealer says you cannot change them for safety reasons. I never should have sold my 2003 without whipping the headrests out of it!

When I drove short distances for a couple of days, I would sit upright and slightly lean forward. That way my back wouldn't be flush against the seat and I was not using the head rest.
But when I drove a long distance last night I could not hold that posture without getting fatigued. So I leaned back and tried to rest my head like you would do on a long drive and tried many different positions, varying the distance between the seat and the steering wheel, the angle of the seat, etc. I could NOT get comfortable and it was very uncomfortable to drive. When I got out of the car it was still uncomfortable and I realized that my whole back and neck was hurting. It still hurt when I went to bed and it continued to hurt after I drove to work. This lasted during most of the day and then aggravated again when I drove home. It also sort of feels like maybe the left side of the seat is pushing against my back more.
1) The seat is just very hard. I can feel the seat (where you sit) comes up in the middle, like the butt cheek sides are sunken in, but the middle isn't, it isn't flat. So that hurts my butt and lower back because I feel like it is pushing up on me with the bump in the middle. I put a pillow over the seat and still felt the issue.
2) The mid to upper back of the seat pushes out farther than the lower back contact. That causes pain in my middle to upper back. I used a pillow here as well and still didn't seem better.
3) There is a gap between trying to rest my head and the top of my shoulders against the seat. I cannot do it comfortably. The head rest pushes my neck forward and does not allow for support for my shoulders. So, my neck and shoulder's hurt.
This is a big deal. The seat is just too hard. It feels like you are sitting are a hard foldable metal seat. I am really disappointed and worried because I just purchased it and it wasn't something that happened over time but in the first couple of days. I really like the CR-V, but it is the whole seat that is really hurting my back and neck and I don't know how to remedy that since I just tried to use pillows for the back and seat and still felt uncomfortable.
