Renegade Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,300 miles

I brought a 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude in December of 2017. I only had it for about 9 months before it started stalling on me. So I took it to a dealership in Cary, NC and they said that they fixed it. About a week or 2 the car started doing the same thing.

The car would shut off as you are driving, turning and waiting for the light. I was almost hit by a car because I was turning and the car shut off and it was a curb. So after that I took the car back to where I got it from. I found out it was a recall on my car so they took it and I didn't get it back for 6 months. 2 days after I got my car back the same thing was happening again I got stuck at the beach. So they had it towed to the nearest Jeep dealer. They said they don't know what's wrong with it so they came up with something.

I need to put oil in it every 1000 miles and this was after a week of them having it and me taking Lyft's. So I got my car back and 2 days after that the car started doing the same thing. I'm on the highway and the car stalls i'm pushing the gas hopping that I can stop if from cutting off. And it works so I did make it home safe there is a God and he is watching over me because that car is trying to kill me. I take it back to where we brought it from and they take it this time cause the engine light is on.

So again I have no car this is a very very inconvenience to me. I get my car back again and now I'm more afraid than ever to drive this car so I only drive it to work cause I have to go to work and mind you I am still paying for this car. I need to go a little distance the other day so I had to use the car. I was scared out of my mind. The car started shutting off while driving cars where braking and swerving and blowing there horns at me. I was so scared I started crying cause I had a baby in the car and I didn't know what to do. I made it to where I had to go cause I was close by when everything started. When I got out the car I didn't want to get back in it but I had to get home. I was scared to get on the road with it so I took it in the parking lot to see if it would make it. The car couldn't make it out of the parking lot. Now I'm getting depressed and preying to God that I don't.

I call customer car and they have the car towed and I'm crying and wondering how I'm going to get home. They tell me that they called Enterprise and they where on their way with a call but I need to hurry up and call. I call them and they tell me I have to take a Uber or Lyft to get the car. Now I'm confused about what's going on and I have to pay when I get there and I need $200.00 so they can hold it for a car. Then I get a car that dirty can't see out of the windows and smells like cigarettes and they didn't even full it up with gas I had less than half of tank of gas.

Terrible Service! They wouldn't look into the issues my 2017 Jeep Renegade was having. It stalled 8 times in the past 6 months and told me I need a new engine, but then wouldn't do anything about it. I had to escalate the case to headquarters and now we are reviewing the solutions on Monday March 3rd. This is beyond ridiculous and have spent numerous times going back to the dealership just to have my jeep topped off with oil again without resolving the problem.

Long story short, my Jeep keeps stalling because of the safe mode feature when it runs low on oil. I got an oil change in August, it stalled 3 times in September due to low oil. They said it 'probably' needs a new engine and they see this happen quite a bit with Jeep cars including the renegade. Either way, I just figured it was a fluke in September. I got an oil change in December (because the oil light came on again). In February, it stalled 5 more times due to low oil! I only traveled 1800 miles! They topped it off with oil and then a week later I called Jeep Headquarters and they had me go back to the dealership to run an oil consumption test. The dealership couldn't find any problems but then they topped it off with 1.7 quarts of oil! IT WAS JUST TOPPED OFF WITH OIL A WEEK AGO! How can their be nothing wrong when it's burning through 1.7 quarts of oil in a week?????

Beyond ridiculous and will look to sue if I don't get a solution for my 2017 Jeep Renegade with only 25,000 miles on it!!!!!!! RIDICULOUS AND WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS DEALERSHIP NOR CHOOSE A JEEP AGAIN!

Yesterday I was driving and the car just stopped and wouldnt go. I shut the car off and restarted it and it was fine. The problem occurred again today. At that point I was able to bring it into the dealership where we purchased it and several codes came back. When looking online I saw the other complaints for the same issue, as well as recalls that have been issued, I was told mine was not part of the recall. They have no loaners, yet they have all these cars on the lot, and say they can't even look at it 7ntil tomorrow. So here I am at the end of my break and stuck at home because they have nothing and this is our family vehicle. With as new as it is, we should not be having this many issues by any means. This is the 3rd time theres been a malfunction with the car!

The Jeep has stalled out 5 different times in heavy traffic nearly causing a wreck. I have towed it to the dealership 4 times now and they say unless the problem can be duplicated, they cannot correct it. There are no warning lights or signals on the console. By the time it is towed to the dealership, the transmission has cooled down, and the Jeep will crank again. This is beyond frustrating as I am a real estate agent and use my vehicle for work. I do not know what will correct this, a new fuel pump, new transmission? I have learned when the engine stalls out, to turn the Jeep off for about 15-20 minutes and it will usually crank again. are you kidding me?? This is not what I paid for!

Renegade Latitude 2.4L

I had the 'stall while driving' experience this last Friday. I only have 15,000 miles on the car.bought the car brand new end of February. We were headed to Northern Colorado from DFW area. Drove Thursday night and was fine. Drove next day and got to Colorado Springs where we were going to make a pit stop and just as we slowed to get off the busy highway it jerked twice then stalled. Coasted to stop, turned the car off and it restarted with the 'Service engine' & 'Service Transmission' messages blaring at us.

We pulled into a parking lot to see if we could find a Jeep dealership or anyone that could help. Found a Jeep specialty shop that said they could look at it and see if it threw any codes. They said that they see this all the time and they think it's the transmission overheating. It did throw a P00735 code. They cleared the code (which now I know they shouldn't of done) so we could make it to a dealership. Got there and they had no clue as to what was wrong.

Called my Dealership when we got back to Texas and they said that we will have to wait until it happens again to have it towed to the service department so they can look at it. So basically we have to wait until it happens and HOPE that we don't get into a wreck when it does! I do NOT feel safe driving this vehicle and I have the deepest sympathy for anyone experiencing the same problems. We need to all bring together one voice in order to be heard, because obviously NO ONE is listening to the problems we are having and how alike they are.

If anyone starts a Class Action, please let me know. Because it's either going to have to be that or someone getting hurt, or worse killed, in order to catch their attention that this needs to be fixed and now!

Renegade Four cyl

While driving up Monarch Pass, within 500 feet of the summit the car sputtered and died. We were in the slow lane of three two lane uphill road on a blind curve. After four attempts to start the car it finally started. Really a very scary place for the car to die as we could easily have been rear ended and if my wife had not been with me directing heavy traffic like semi's I would have been in serious risk. Dealership says they have no idea why this would happen. The dealership did not seem to be very concerned. I will definitely call Chrysler and get a case started.

Update from Aug 9, 2018: Unfortunately as others have reported the dealership says no codes showed up on the diagnostics. So I guess it will have to happen two more times to qualify as a lemon. Definitely consider the safety issue if considering buying this car. Definitely the company is going to have to have a class action suit before it takes notice.

I had taken the car to a dealership during my vacation because the car was stalling. Two days after leaving the dealership the car shows the same problem, the motor stops turning in the middle of the highway and coasts to a stop. This time we ask for a two truck and take it back to the same Durango dealership. No rental car is provided and, again, the dealership is unable to reproduce the problem and detects nothing wrong with our car.

We contact Chrysler, at this point really worried about getting home to Ohio safely. The costumer service is terrible. Waiting times of at least 25 minutes before anyone talked to us. The person who finally picks it up can do nothing but record your information and pass it to a designated 'case manager'. If you try the chat line, a very polite person will say how sorry they are for your 'scary' situation and provide you with the number of the, you guessed it, case officer.

It took us four 60 minutes plus calls over two days but on the fourth one I finally was able to talk to the case manager. It was even worst than before. The person is just as unable to do anything as the others. The only difference is that the case officer, in addition to being unhelpful, is also sort of rude. No car rental, no help transporting our car back to Ohio, nothing. I feel cheated and disrespected. The worst, most stressful, frustrating costumer service experience I've had in my life.

On vacation in Colorado, drove it from OH. During a slight uphill section at about 50 mph the engine just stops and car coasts to the shoulder. There were no warning lights/messages, and no strange behavior from the motor prior to the stalling. After putting it in park the car turns on and we continue on the road, this happens four more times in the next hour.

We take the car to the nearest dealer (Durango, CO). No rental car is provided. They don't find anything wrong with the car, but update some software. Dealer gives us a 'Star Online Publication' (case # S172100013) which lists what happens to our car and concludes that 'engineering is currently investigating these complaints and the field will be notified when updates become available. The document as published in July of 2017..

6-21-18: Driving home up a modest hill at 65 mph and the Renegade simply stalls. Scary! I could not restart it to get home. Had it towed and dealer cannot find anything wrong with it, and cannot replicate the issue. I take the car home.

6-23-18: Driving in Flagstaff, AZ (60 miles from home), the Renegade stalls 5x in a single day. Stalls at any driving incline and speed ranging from 35 -65 mph. Lucky to have shoulder or fast food parking lot to 'coast' into for safety. Have it towed to dealer again. Chrysler provided rental car per my request. They could not replicate the problem, but said they found shorts in the battery cables so replaced them. They 'believed' this would fix the problem. It did not.

7-5-18: Renegade stalls again at 35 mph on level, paved road. Coast to safety and have it towed for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. Rental car provided again per my request. This time, I filed a complaint with Chrysler/Jeep Customer Care and was assigned a Case number.

I live in AZ, and it's very hot. Yet the temperature gauge reads in the normal range.

I will do not feel safe in this car. I cannot even think of taking it in long trips as it is unreliable. I will post updates as things progress. If you have similar problems, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you contact Chrysler to file a complaint. There is obviously a trend of 'stalling' problems with this car and it will only be remedied if we all collectively complain.

Started the vehicle, started to drive and was prompted with several warning lights and the vehicle had lost all abilities to accelerate. The truck told me to shift into park to change gears, I do so but it would no longer drive. I took the car to the dealership via tow truck and dropped off over night. They informed me they could not diagnose the problem so they uploaded the data to Jeep Star for the engineers to overlook. A few days later they told me they had to reprogram one of the modules in the car and it should be good to go.

The car worked for another 700 miles with no issues. then on September 12th the same issue with tons of warning lights, loss of power, and being unable to drive. The car seems to be able to drive after sitting for a period of time with no explanation on why it died. Currently they had the same issue with recreating the problem and sent the data to Jeep Star again for review. It has been three days and no updates and no updates expected until next week.

This has happened to me all within a few blocks of starting the vehicle but as I read around it has happened to people driving as well.

We purchased this vehicle in April. In May, we had an electrical issue with the key. The dealership had it for weeks, tried 5 different parts, then finally fixed it. My son had spent the majority of the last month in Colorado with family. On 7/22/17 we were driving from Kansas City to WaKeeney to pick my son up and bring him home. We left early because we knew the tempuratures during the day were going to get pretty hot. We got to WaKeeney at 10 am. We turned the car off for 30 minutes while we ate breakfast. We had no problems at this point. We turned around and headed back to Kansas City (a 4 hour 20 minute drive) and started noticing issues a little over 2 hours towards heading home. When we were driving down I-70 the engine suddenly shut off! My husband thankfully got the jeep to the side of the road where we waited a minute then tried to drive again. We didn't even get a mile before the same issue happened yet again. During this time we were nearly hit by a semi and a few cars going 75 mph. My husband got out of the vehicle to check everything with the vehicle, he couldn't see any problems with any of the fluid. At this point my son started to get sick from the heat. I found a gas station within 5 miles from where we were. The car stalled another 4 times trying to get to the gas station and we quickly found out if we turned the A/C on it would stall immediately. We got to the gas station and called the dealership who told us to call Chrysler. They told us they could tow the vehicle to the nearest dealership (still 2 hours from home), but basically that we were stranded there. We called that dealership to see if they'd give us a loaner vehicle but their service department is closed on the weekends so they couldn't do anything to help until Monday. My son (who has a ton of medical issues), kept getting worse, so we found a nearby hotel to go and let him lay down at. My dad offered to come pick us up, but we couldn't just leave the jeep 2 hours away from home. We can't take the time off work to drive out here and risk it not working again. Since it took my dad 2 hours to get to us it allowed the jeep time to cool down, so my husband drove it home, without AC in 104* heat while we followed to make sure it didn't stall again. On the way home, the engine kept overheating and caused the radio to stop working (not sure how that works). This car is a death trap!!! We could have been killed on the highway. Chrysler does not care about their customers safety. We're waiting to see what our dealership says on Monday, but I doubt they'll be helpful since they weren't on Saturday. DO NOT BUY A JEEP RENEGADE.

Jeep Renegade owners have reported 18 problems related to software (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

Incorrect software combination/fmvss 101 if the malfunction indicator lamps illuminate at incorrect times, the driver may be unaware when a true malfunction occurs, increasing the risk of a crash. The display is showing that drl lights, left turn signal, right turn signal, and brake lights are out but they are not out, there is already a recall out on the 2017 Jeep Renegade but their is not one for my VIN number but the same problem exist in my Jeep. Nhtsa campaign number: 17v485000.

Vehicle cuts off randomly while driving, has been taken lake keowee Dodge for software update, but continues to have same issue. This issue happened about 3 months ago and cut off 5 times in one day on 81018. This is extremely dangerous and there are no recalls as of yet.

Failure Date: 03/28/2018

Extreme hesitation upon acceleration and nearly stopping while trying to enter a freeway, twice. Key fob issues, auto start issues, radio and blue tooth issues, tire pressure gauge reading issues. First service visit I was told it was just in need of a computer rest. Second visit they said they found nothing wrong with it. Third visit they initially said it needed a software upgrade until I insisted it was serious and contacted corporate. Not only was I treated poorly but I was blocked from leaving a review. It was mentioned that engineers currently know there is an issue but are waiting until second quarter to publish it. I believe this is extremely negligent because it isn't just a faulty sensor light, the entire vehicle nearly dies while driving on a freeway, creating a risk for a fatal accident. I demanded records of all that has been done to this brand new auto, since issues first arose on 12/9/1027. From 12/9/2017-3/38/2018, I have had my car at the service center three times. And I just found the safety recall online, I have not been notified by Jeep or the dealership yet as to this recall pertaining to faulty sensor alerts. I am unable to select from the above list but 'wheels' and 'elec stability control' were also affected.

Failure Date: 12/16/2017

On 4 occasions now since owning my Jeep Renegade the vehicle will jerk, check enhine light comes on, and the vehicle will lock in 3rd gear. I try to switch to manual shift and will not shift. I purchased this vehicle with 50 miles, and now over 28,000 miles with reoccurring problems. On instance the vehicle light warning comes on indicating all of the lights are out in the vehicle, and the light build indicator will remain for a short period of time, and cut off. The dealership has replaced the transmission computer on the first instance, replaced the bsm on the second occasion, and since then 2 software updates. This vehicle is defective in some way and fca needs to address these ongoing issues that are a huge safety concern.

Failure Date: 12/09/2017

While both stationary and in motion on a highway driving under the speed limit specified to safely engage my 4wd lock and snow terrain would not work. Also both the check engine light and the oil pressure fail warning light have turned on and off multiple times while both stationary and driving on the highway and the street. The sensor has been replaced once and has continued to relight. After researching online I have found that a recall has began called t50- incorrect software combination/fmvss101-2017 Jeep Renegade with an issues of faulty circuit panels having multiple indicator lights lighting up deeming it unsafe to drive since the driver would not actually know when they are truely at risk and could be invoked in an accident. My Jeep as of yet is not showing up in the recall per my VIN# yet I am suffering from the same issues as the recall. My manual states to not drive my vehicle while these indicator lights are on but my dealer has advised me to drive it anyway. The federal vehicle motor safety standard (fmvss) number 101, controls and displays. states vehicles with said issues fail to comply with their requirements.

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited numerous electrical failures. The oil pressure and engine indicators remained illuminated, and the four wheel drive lock button flashed while attempting to engage the four wheel drive system. Stetler giambalvo family Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, ram (1405 roosevelt avenue, york, pennsylvania 17405, phone (888) 226-0954) updated the four wheel drive software system, but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle could not be driven in snowy conditions. The oil pressure indicator was also replaced, but the repair did not correct the failure. The oil pressure and engine indicators remained illuminated. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

Software issue in that instrument warning lights come on at at time. Possibly giving you false warning of what is happening with vehicle. Happens when switch is turned on and stays on for long time. It happened five times over past year; dealership saw it happen once but did nothing to correct the problem. Also came when vehicle was in motion. Sounds same as 2017 electrical system recall 17v4485000.

I purchased this car after owning two wrangler's, a cherokee and a patriot. I noticed right away that my transmission would lunge forward when coming to a stop and the transmission would shift harshly when slowing down in traffic then applying the gas to go, the car also hesitates to take off. I have had many scary situations where I was almost rear-ended many times because of the delay, I also came to a stop at a crosswalk and right when I went to stop the car lunged forward and I hit someone walking in the crosswalk, I was lucky the guy was not hurt, I also had a time where there was a couch in front of me on the freeway and I was not able to avoid it because of a hesitation in the engine where at times I am unable to accelerate right away and this could cause me to get hit if I switch lanes to quickly, I ended up slamming on the breaks and sliding into the counch and contacting 911 to explain what happened. This transmission is defective and all the shops do is reset the transmission and do a software update to the transmission and the tcm and the pcm on the car. The cars door locks will also sometimes beep loud and sometimes beep short like something is wrong and a good portion of the time the car will not lock. I also have a weird vibration coming from the right side of the car and the dealer said that they tested it against a cherokee and it's the same but I have a Renegade so I have in writing they tested the wrong model car. This car has had so many issues and I really feel unsafe, I have already taken the car in 5 times and they don't really do anything. I will be taking it in to get my ac knob replaced because it has a sharp edge and I keep getting cut. I don't think being told the harsh shifting is normal is right, I feel like I am driving a manual transmission because of the weird shifts this transmission does.

Failure Date: 05/04/2017

Since I have purchased the car it sometimes stops dead in its track as I start to drive. I am usually going slow when this happens. I took it in and was told the software had to be updated and I had a lot of them. Now, the air broke and all of a sudden the car started overheating. I had to pull over and wait for service. I am waiting to hear back what the problem is now. Considering turning the car in.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. While driving 2 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Huntington beach Chrysler Jeep of huntington beach, California was made aware of the failure on two occasions and advised the contact to bring the vehicle in to be serviced. The second time the failure occurred, the dealer stated that the failure was due to a software glitch at 500 miles. The dealer was contacted again for the failure that recurred at 1,300 miles, but the vehicle was not taken in for service. The contact did not notify anyone the first time the failure occurred. The manufacturer stated that it was not their responsibility and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was 500.

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

Approximately one month after purchasing my 2015 Jeep Renegade trailhawk, I began having trouble with the electrical system. The battery has died four times, the key fob(s) work intermittently, the engine has shut off on its own, the clock continuously resets the date/time, and the windows have stopped working once. I have been forced to use Jeep's roadside assistance twice due to dead batteries. This weekend, the heater stopped working and it does not turn on. These continuous problems substantially impairs both the use and value of my car. Additionally, it presents a significant safety concern for my family; winter is upon us and my wife utilizes this vehicle to transport our two children, whom are each under the age of three years old. The thought of them being stranded with no heater due to continuous electrical issues is unnerving. I initially considered this to be an isolated incident; however, I've asked two additional 2015 Jeep Renegade owners if they have encountered any similar instances - both have returned their Renegade to the dealership for servicing due to electrical issues. The dealership informed them the vehicle simply needed a software update. This is not a satisfactory response!.

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and lost power intermittently after the accelerator pedal was depressed. The traction control warning indicator also illuminated. The failure occurred approximately twelve times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as having an engineering software failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. While driving 30 mph, there was a strong vibration and the vehicle lunged forward without warning. The contact also stated that the vehicle made a grinding noise when shifting gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer software program needed to be updated for the engine and transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred several other times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,500.

Failure Date: 03/19/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. The failure occurred randomly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,858. The VIN was unavailable.

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

2 weeks after buying my brand new Renegade, it completely shut off on the freeway & I had to coast over 3 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. Not only did my Jeep leave me stranded, I could have been ran over at 80 miles an hour. Just before shutting down, my car would not shift gears and began to lose speed even though the rpms were hitting the red marks. It was serviced, and given 2 software updates. A week later, the same thing happened. You can push the gas pedal to the floor, but the vehicle does not accelerate, instead it dies, however the rpm's go up as high as they can go but my car won't shift gears. Now it is in the shop (for over a week), supposedly getting a new fuel pump, which I do not think is the ultimate problem. I have read about the 9 speed automatic problems and this is exactly what keeps happening. After putting me in danger twice, I feel certain as soon as I get my new fuel pump and drive home, this will break down again. I have had the Jeep one month, brand new.

I was on the highway when suddenly my brand new car stalled and would not shift back into gear. The car became immobilized and had to get towed back to the dealership. They replaced the fuel valve and did not test for transmission or electrical issues. Two days later the same thing happened on the highway. I took it to a different dealership and they did not know what was wrong with it, so they updated the software in the car because two updates were available. I got the car back and it broke down for a third time, again after only 2 days. The car is currently in the shop and Chrysler is reluctant to buyback the vehicle. Nobody can figure out what is wrong.

Jeep Renegade Driving Software Download 2017

Our Jeep Renegade's 6. 5an infotainment system may have corrupted software or a electrical problems. Since owning the vehicle (June 2 ,2015) the “yelp” feature will not load and is not available to utilize as advertised. My u-connect account was listed as “pending” instead of trial/activated. After numerous trips and calls to u-connect with multiple trouble tickets and opened “star case” the radio was replaced on 8/26/2015 but it is now worse than before,. Apps do not work, getting sever error and subscription errors. I now have another open trouble ticket and u-connect doesn’t seem to have an answer. I have been putting up with this for 3 months now and 5-6 trips to the dealer, a replacement radio and a requested buyback. I have an open customer care case. This wasn’t the only electrical problem had 4 attempts to replace a bad key fob, finally after ordering 2 new key fob , is was fixed.

My Jeep Renegade's 6. 5an infotainment system may have corrupted software. Since owning the vehicle, the 'yelp' feature will not load and is not available to utilize as advertised. My uconnect account listed in my radio system shows 'pending' instead of trial or activated. I am also missing soft key applications such as WI-fi and sometimes uconnect store. I have contacted uconnect access, Jeep, and my dealership countless times over the past 30 days of ownership with no remedy. I have been told to perform soft and factory resets time and time again with no change. Uconnect reps have re-sent data and jar. Files with no luck and no change to my radio system. Dealership does not know what to do and submitted a work tiocket to star reps for assistance. They have not figured out what to do and told me they would contact manufacturers of the radio system for help. 2 weeks later and no word from dealership or star reps. I wish they would try to reload system software or replace my 6. 5an system with new one.
